I really had fun designing the Trading Grannies Square. That was the first day I “cheated” in a walking competition we are having at my 9-5 job! Each week there is a new challenge for who can take the most steps, and we all log into an app that syncs with our watches and logs who is walking the most. I already walk Ruby Sue for at least 3 miles per day, but the day I designed the Trading Grannies square, my watch said I walked over 20 miles!
Since then, I always make it a point to wear my watch while I am crocheting so I get the credit. Crocheting is exercise, not just for your brain and fingers, but your entire body, if my watch is to be believed! If only the scale would also recognize all of this exercising I’m doing….
The Trading Grannies Square works up really quickly and was quite fun to design. Each round is half the traditional granny stitch and half solid double crochets. And then from time to time, you’ll “trade” which set of stitches comes first! I used some leftover Red Heart Ombre yarn I had from a previous project for my design sample, but you can use any worsted weight yarn you choose. You could even change colors either when the rounds change or within the rounds when the stitch combination changes. (And frankly I hope you do try that and share photos with me because I would love to see what that looks like!)
