Diamondback Scarf- FREE Crochet Pattern

Hello friends! I am so delighted to bring you not only the first pattern of 2024, but also the first Forever Free pattern!

This pattern followed my typical design process as I spent more time than I would have liked working up different stitches, trying different yarn and hook combinations, frogged it all, made excessive use of my new yarn winder my daughter gave me for Christmas, and starting over. Once I finally decided what the stitch was going to be, I decided that I just wasn’t loving my yarn selection so I pulled out the 2 balls of Lion Brand Mandala in the Spirit colorway I had been hoarding and sure enough, the pattern came together even better than I had planned!

This stitch combination is a bit more complex than my normal style, so I even made sure to take the time to film a tutorial video so you will have great success in making your own Diamondback Scarf! In all honesty, I wish I had the time to film tutorial videos more frequently, but I battle things like a full-time job, having the right daylight on the weekends, a spouse who enjoys his music at excessive volume levels at the most inopportune times, and most of all, one Ruby Sue Shih Poo who thinks that the very best time to serenade me with the different sounds of alllllll of her squeaky toys would be not just when I am filming a tutorial, but especially the times I am narrating! At the end of the video I included clips of outtakes so you can hear the background ruckus I have to contend with over here- it might be worth a chuckle, plus you’ll get to discover that in addition to that soothing “teaching voice” I use in my videos, there is a very cranky “Momma voice” and she means business! (Fast forward to 55 minutes in if you want to go straight to the outtakes.)

I designed the Diamondback Scarf as part of the 2024 Gift to Myself CAL, hosted by Underground Crafter. We spend so much time crocheting items for loved ones and for donation, at times it seems we have hooked and hooked with nothing to show for it, so I just love the spirit of this event- it is okay to put our talents to use on a “selfish” project! You can proudly wear this scarf, knowing you will get lots of compliments and every time someone asks, “where did you get that?” You can say, “oh, I made it!” (You never know, this could even get some orders placed to keep you busy and add a little money to your yarn budget!)
