If you are unfamiliar with the Hooked In series, I introduced it a million years ago back in 2020, and have decided to revive the series this year. Each month, I interview a fellow crochet designer so you can get to know more about them and maybe find a new designer you love!
Today, I am sitting down with Nichola from Elimee Designs.
Hi Nichola, and Welcome to Straight Hooked! I am so excited to introduce you to my friends. Let’s dive right in:
How long have you been in business?
A little over 1 year
How long have you been a crocheter?
Almost 6 years
What made you decide to take the leap and start hooking for money?
I couldn’t find a pattern to match the image that I had in my head so designed one. Once I realised that I could do it I decided to take the leap and start designing patterns on a regular basis.
What inspires you?
Anything and everything lol. My Aphrodite pattern is based on one of my daughter’s doodles!
What is your biggest struggle with your crochet business?
Finding the time to do everything that I would like – I design around a day job, kids, studying etc.
Why is crochet important to you?
I find it therapeutic – my day job and life in general can be stressful, crocheting is my way of unwinding and recharging.
What is your signature design?
Probably my Waggle Dance Bee Blanket – it has definitely been my most popular design. However, I have recently released my Festive Hygge Blanket, and i’m hoping that that will do well.
What is your favorite yarn to work with?
I predominantly work with DK weight yarn – I mainly use Stylecraft yarn as it is affordable, comes in a good range of colours and washes well, however I do like experimenting with other yarns too.
What kind of hooks do you prefer?
Since I started using my Clover hooks i’ve not looked back, although I recently won a set of Tulip hooks which I find myself picking up fairly often too.
How are you changing the world with your crochet?
I’m trying to spread my love of crochet with others! I have a few friends and family members who I convinced to pick up a hook and are still crocheting today 🙂
If you could do anything without the constraints of time and money, what would it be?
Spin and dye my own yarn to use in my designs!
What is your favorite crocheting snack and beverage?
Any chocolate lol.
What are your hobbies? (Other than crocheting, of course!)
Spending time with my kids, reading and sewing. I’ve also just started learning to knit.
Where do you love to crochet?
Curled up under a blanket on my sofa.
What do you like to watch (aka have on in the background) while you are crocheting?
I actually tend to prefer audiobooks as then I don’t have to look up from my crochet.
What exciting things do you have coming up in your business?
My Festive Hygge Blanket is currently mid CAL. In the very near future I shall be launching my own website and blog, and I have lots of fun designs planned for next year (assuming that baby bump allows this lol).
Where can we find you?
Website (currently under construction)
Nichola, thank you so much for taking the time to share your story with us today. I am in love with your blanket designs!
