Week Eleven, y’all. Can you believe it? I now have 33 squares completed, ends woven in and blocked. As soon as I finish the last 3 next week, it will be time to join them all together. Joining squares is what has made me say, “never again” at least 6 times already, but I love the look of a patchwork blanket. That’s probably why the quote “Never Say Never” exists. (And yes, I am humming the song from An American Tail right now, which unfortunately shows my age.)
This week’s square is called the Phoenix Square, designed by Stardust Gold Crochet. You can find the pattern HERE.
This pattern works up relatively quickly and is written perfectly. The reason I mention this is that because it is overlay crochet, several rounds have the same number of stitches. If you are used to increasing every round, your first instinct may be to assume the designer messed up on some of the counts. While still working it up, the square is very not flat and has quite the texture to it. (I should have taken a picture before I blocked to show what I’m saying here, but it didn’t happen, because of course I just now though of it.)
Normally, I block my squares around the edges only, but for this square, I decided to block the overlay in the center as well. I think that was a wise idea, because the end result is just stunning!
Only one week left until the end of the crochet-a-long! Now its time to start thinking of what kind of border I am going to do. I’m always open to suggestions, so if you have one, leave a comment below, send me an email, or comment on social media. I would LOVE to hear from you!
Until next week, Happy Hooking!
