Guess what- its another Free Pattern Friday! This month has flown by (which is crazy since July was 6 years long), and I’ve still managed to put out three patterns. How this happened I am not quite sure, but it did. Earlier in the month, the Friendship Prayer Shawl was published, and last week I released the Kenzie Blanket which has quickly become my most popular pattern to date! To finish off this awesome month, I have decided to treat you to a freebie- the Berry Fun Beret. I had so much fun designing this one, and I am sure you will have fun making it!
(ad disclosure: I’m a blogger. We have ads. If you click one, I might get some small compensation. Standard issue, but you can read all about it in my boring privacy policy if you really want to.)
Historically, I look stupid in hats. (And while a bad selfie as I’m looking like Willie Nelson with my RBF in full force, this photo is a pretty good representation of me in any given hat.) I don’t know if its my tiny head or something odd about my facial features, but no hat looks cute on me. It took me a while to publish this hat because I always show my new designs to my spouse and daughter first, and they both told me my beret looked stupid. I kept telling them that it wasn’t the hat, it was me, but they mocked my poor beret so much that I started believing them. I finally decided to go live on Instagram and show some of my yarny friends, and they agreed with me- the beret is cute, just not on me. Finally, I convinced my daughter to try it on, and it is super cute on her! I forced her to model it, and you can tell from her face that she was reluctant to participate. (These photos are the best faces I could get her to make- I kept asking her to pretend she loved my design, and this was her very best pretending, lol)
Maybe you’ll make one and share photos with me so I can see how cute my design is on someone who a) looks cute in a hat and b) actually likes my design!

Notes:
This pattern is written in US terms.
This pattern is worked in the round.
To reverse slst, remove hook from loop, insert hook into back of next st, pull loop through. See my video tutorial for this technique here
For the puff stitch, (yo, insert hook, yo, pull up a loop) 6 times, yo, pull through all but last loop on hook, yo, pull through last loop to finish stitch.
Unless otherwise indicated, the ch at the beginning of a round is counted as a stitch.
My mannequin Natalie has a freakishly small head, but the Berry Fun Beret is cute on her, albeit a little large!
Gauge:
First 4 rounds= 3”
