Hello my friends! This is the last month of the Friendship Blanket CAL, hosted by my friends at Sunflower Cottage Crochet, and my second square design is here on the blog for FREE! This square is much less complex than the Dolphin Stitch Square, but it sure does look pretty when completed.

The Companion Square is made using only double crochets and chains, which means it works up quickly and the pattern is easy to follow. I made my square in about an hour, which included the design time!
Companion Square: (Written in US Terminology)
Materials:
5mm crochet hook
Worsted weight (4) yarn
Stitch Markers
Scissors
Finishing Needle
Gauge: 8dc x 5 rows= 2” square
Abbreviations:
ch- chain
dc- double crochet
vst- v stitch
sk- skip
Special Stitches:
V Stitch: (dc, ch1, dc) in same stitch or chain
Pattern Instructions:
R1. ch 40, vst in 5th ch from hook, *sk 2 ch, 3dc in next ch, sk 2 ch, vst*, repeat from *to* 4 times, sk 2 chs, 3dc in next ch, sk 1 ch, dc in last ch, turn.
R2. ch3 (counts as dc), sk 1 st *vst in center st of 3dc, sk 2 sts, 3dc in center of vst, sk 2 sts*, repeat from *to* 4 times, sk 2 sts, vst in center of 3dc, sk 2 sts, 3dc in center of vst, sk 1 st, dc in top of ch3, turn.
R3-20. Repeat R2.
Finish off, weave in ends.
