Wow, this month has really flown by here at Straight Hooked Headquarters. I have 2 patterns currently in testing and another one on my hook, so be sure to keep an eye out for new pattern releases coming in the next couple of months!
Today though, I am excited for another installment of the Hooked In series and to introduce you to my friend Fiona from ReVeDesignCo. If you are unfamiliar with the Hooked In series, each month a fellow crochet designer sits down for an interview and shares more about themselves, their business and anything upcoming they want you to know about.
Hi Fiona! Welcome to Straight Hooked. First, please tell us where we can find ReVeDesignCo.
How long have you been in business?
Nearly 10 years.
How long have you been a crocheter?
12 years.
What made you decide to take the leap and start hooking for money?
Accidentally! I posted a photo of the blanket I made for my nephew’s birth, and someone ordered one!
What inspires you?
The yarn! I often pick up a new yarn, and a design comes simply from how it feels, or how it starts working up.
What is your biggest struggle with your crochet business?
Time. I never seem to have enough time to everything I want to do! Nor to make everything I want to design.
Why is crochet important to you?
I just love the craft! I used to knit, and in comparison, crochet is so much faster (for me). I love the stitches, and the fact that I can decide to create a certain shape or style and I can simply do that. The crocheting community is also so beautiful. There are so many wonderful, supportive and encouraging people!
What is your signature design?
I’m best known for the Desert Dreams Poncho.
What is your favorite yarn to work with?
Currently, it’s hand-dyed 100% merino yarn from here in Australia.
What kind of hooks do you prefer?
Clover Amour
How are you changing the world with your crochet?
I encourage those who use my patterns to learn new stitches (foundation and chainless starting stitches are used in almost all my patterns). Most people, once they learn these, are very grateful!
if you could do anything without the constraints of time and money, what would it be?
I’d crochet 12 hours every day and leave all the social media and pattern editing to someone else. I’d become a desiging machine! There are SO many designs in my head, that I am unlikely to create/release them all, and I think that is sad.
What is your favorite crocheting snack and beverage?
I drink Soda Water (soda stream – plain) or hot chocolate and I snack on chocolate.
What are your hobbies? (Other than crocheting, of course!)
Singing – I lead worship at my local church. Cooking – I’ve “designed” some amazing dishes over the years!
Where do you love to crochet?
In my recliner in the living room of our home. That said, I have spent many hours over the years crocheting in the car while waiting/watching kids sport. They’re grown now.
What do you like to watch (aka have on in the background) while you are crocheting?
TV Dramas (crime, mostly, but not always). I re-watch Gilmore Girls at least once a year, Bones, Castle, NCIS etc. Currently re-watching Army Wives.
Tell me about the exciting things coming up in your business:
April 28th 2023 marks 9 years since I designed my first logo and opened my Etsy Shop! In those 9 years, I’ve gone from a maker/seller to a designer/maker which has been exciting. So coming up, is always MORE DESIGNS! I am constantly adding to my selection of over 80 designs in my shops, using fresh, new shapes, styles and stitch combinations.
