After teasing you for the entire summer (and part of spring), the Party Pop Shawl has finally arrived!
I love using different stitch combinations to create textures that you can see and feel, but I don't like to use stitch combinations that are too open for baby designs because I would never want a tiny finger or toe to become entangled in something created from my pattern. Still, I did want a nice unique texture to this blanket and I achieved this with tiny crossed stitches that look like "x" s. Since "x" is a typical abbreviation for kiss, I thought Gentle Kisses was the perfect name for this design!
I saw a brief video of a similar stitch one day, and it was unfortunately linked to a scam website with stolen patterns in a different language. There were many comments on the video from crocheters requesting the pattern in English, so after watching it a few times I came up with my own variation- AND I even made a tutorial video for you, as the pattern itself is quite easy, but explaining the technique in written form was a bit of a challenge and I wanted to give you a visual to go along with what I have written.
I had a few balls of Lion Brand Mandala in the Spirit colorway, and I am SO thrilled to share my favorite design to date with you today. The Garden of Blooms Shawl pattern incorporates a few techniques that might be new to you, but they are fun and easy to master! I knew I wanted to make them into a cozy oversized shawl. I also knew that I wanted to do something completely different, stitch wise, than I had ever done before
I designed the Friendship Prayer Shawl in 2020, and it has been a bestseller for the past 3 years. In the true spirit of friendship, I am now sharing it with you for free here on the Straight Hooked blog! I used Lion Brand Mandala Ombre in the Tranquil colorway. I absolutely loved working with this yarn. It is so soft and easy to work with, and the color changes are just perfection!
When I saw the new Lion Brand Mandala Sequins yarn winking at me, I just couldn't help myself. As I was working up the Storybook Scarf design, the combinations of the bright colors, sequins and the texture reminded me of a book my daughter had so many moons ago when she a tiny tot. Does the scarf remind you of a specific book from the early 2000s? (I asked my daughter when she came to visit a couple weeks ago, and she did not think of it, so don't feel bad if it hasn't come to you yet!)
I made my Spiral Donut Cowl using one ball of Lion Brand Mandala Sparkle in the Aquarius colorway. I absolutely love the Mandala yarn, and you will find that I use it in many of my designs. The yarn is super easy to work with, and I have yet to find a colorway that I dislike! The Spiral Donut Cowl is constructed from post stitches in the round, then joined together to create a donut shape.
